Scripture Meditations for Christmas
We pray you will sense the presence of God, and that sweet memories of your loved one will fill your heart and mind this Christmas.
“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
Matthew 6:34a. Know it’s ok to say “no” of expectations you can’t meet right now. You don’t have to participate in traditions that are too painful this year. We ask God to give you the freedom to say “no” and bring understanding to those around you.
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” Matthew 5:4 We ask Jesus to comfort you. We ask the Father to shower comfort on you from those around you, and keep away words or actions that are not comforting.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3. We ask God to bring healing to your spirit. His mercies are new every morning. His word says “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalm 56:8.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7. We ask the Father to give you peaceful sleep, and for peaceful thoughts and emotions to rule your days and nights.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18, NLT). Depend on God to help you trust that tomorrow will be better and that a day will come when you will see all that He has done on your behalf.
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Know that God delights in you. Even when you hurt too much to remember His goodness, He will never stop rejoicing over you. We pray you will sense His delight in you.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. We ask Almighty God for supernatural strength and His power to help overcome any fear and anxiety you may experience.
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:13. God hears your prayers and has compassion on you. May you sense the intense love and compassion He has for you.
“I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12. We join you in asking God to help you walk in light, seeing what is right and helping you to walk in His safety.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6. Jesus is called the Wonderful Counselor. His counsel brings peace, is true and eternal. May you experience His beauty, power and unfailing love this Christmas.
“And the children of Israel did so, just as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged.” Joshua 4:8
The stones represent spiritual markers that helped God’s people remember how He had delivered them. This truth can serve two purposes as we reflect on this scripture. We can remember and thank our Father for His faithfulness to us in the past. We can also ask our Father to help us think of tangible ways to honor and remember our loved ones. We join you in thanking Him for the blessing of their lives.
“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:31. May God help you run, walk and find hope in His strength. We pray your God will help you soar!
“There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 23:18 Christ is our hope. The Book of Comforts says, “It (hope) is not a pleasant thought to get through the moment or a distraction from a present hardship, but a trusty bridge from here to eternity.” We pray you will sense the presence of God, and that sweet memories of your loved one will fill your heart and mind. We pray you will know the reality of hope that builds a bridge to the future.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth… The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life. Psalm 121:1-2, 7 Praise God for His help and watch over your life!
“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him, for He shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between His shoulders.” Deuteronomy 33:12. We pray that God will shield you today and that you will rest in Him. May the joy of Jesus coming engulf your hearts and the hope of Heaven fill your soul.
